Faculty & Staff Monthly Newsletter

February 5, 2024

College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources Dean, Indrajeet Chaubey

Dear Colleagues,

In my monthly messages to you, I usually keep it light and fun. However, I want to take a moment to address a topic that is on many of our minds: the budget. I truly believe that transparency and discussion are the best policy, which is why I have shared information with CAHNR leadership and department heads as it has become available to me. Right now, we are still unclear about all the details related to the budget, but please know that I will continue to be transparent and to work hard to ensure CAHNR programs, priorities, and people are adequately funded. I encourage faculty and staff to attend the Town Hall meetings offered by the Office of the Provost as a way to continue to stay informed and voice any questions or concerns you may have (details are provided below). Regardless of what challenges lie ahead, we will face them collectively, as a team, in order to keep advancing in our mission to serve the students and communities of our state.

A large part of our mission has been enhancing health locally, nationally, and globally. This year,  to commemorate the 10th anniversary of adding "Health" to our College name, we are celebrating the contributions our faculty, staff, students, and alumni have made in this field. Keep a look out for stories and events that highlight the #HinCAHNR throughout 2024.

As always, thanks for all you do.

Best,

Indrajeet Chaubey
Dean and Director

Did You Know - How to Pronounce CAHNR

Prompted by the Department of Kinesiology’s move from the Neag School of Education in 2014, the Board of Trustees approved a new name: the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources. Since the full College name can be a mouthful, many choose to use the acronym, CAHNR, pronounced like “Connor," not "Canner."

“A lot of people may still pronounce it as ‘Canner,’ but that doesn’t reflect the all-important ‘H,’ which is a small way to make sure our focus on ‘Health’ is a recognizable part of our name and our work,” says Chaubey.
