The CAHNR's Dean's Office is committed to providing opportunities for faculty, staff, and graduate students to expand their professional knowledge and skills. Throughout the year, the Dean's Office will organize workshops and trainings that help the CAHNR community grow their understanding and abilities of both hard and soft skills, such as communications, HR/payroll, and creativity.

Photography Resources - Friday, May 19, 2023

Jason Sheldon will be hosting a tutorial on various photography resources to find and use images to update websites, include in publications, and to accompany news and events shared with the UConn community. This tutorial gives an introduction to the University Media Share photo database, the College’s photo processes, tips for taking better photos, and how to keep photos organized and easy to share with others through OneDrive.

Business Office Open Hour -Wednesday, November 16th from 12:00PM – 1:00PM, Young 209 w/ Virtual option 

The Business Office will be hosting an open hour to review some helpful tips and tricks.  Items include:  

  • Fiscal vs. Project account and what it means  
  • Helpful Screens in KFS 
  • How to look up an employee number

Updating your Website with Aurora - Tuesday, November 15, 2022

Kevin will be hosting a tutorial, and answer any questions you have about updating and expanding your websites using the Aurora WordPress platform. We'll go over basic how-to's for site updates, as well as specifics for our college's template. Then any questions you have about Aurora or your site specifically will be addressed.

Working with the Media - Thursday, November 10, 2022

Working with the media can be a great way to highlight the CAHNR expertise with a broad audience. Unfortunately media training isn’t typically part of academic training. The CAHNR Office of Communications will host a one-hour workshop to prepare faculty, Extension educators, graduate students, and staff for successful interviews and offer tips on becoming a go-to resource for journalists.

CAHNR Brand Standards - Tuesday, November 1, 2022

Just Do It. The Golden Arches. While memorable logos and slogans are important, they are just some of the elements of a strong brand. Unified messaging and visual identity help all members of an organization to highlight our strengths and drive home who we are. In this session, the CAHNR Office of Communications will go over the College’s brand standards, including the visual identity toolkit and the messaging platform. We’ll also cover the basics of UConn’s brand standards.

Special Payroll Training offered by the B.O. - Thursday, October 27 (2:00PM – 3:30P)

This training will include information related to both PageUp and CORE processing. We will review the hiring process in PageUP, data changes in both PageUp and CORE, as well as how this information ties financially into your unit’s respective account(s).

HuskyBuy Training  - Monday, October 17, 2022 (10:00-11:30 a.m.)

The CAHNR Business Office in conjunction with CLAS has coordinated a HuskyBuy training.  This is a supplementary training to the Purchasing overview that was provided in the month of September.

Internal Communications Resources: Using Digests, Calendars, and Photos - Tuesday, October 4, 2022

Jason Sheldon will be hosting a tutorial on various internal communications resources you can use to share news and events with the UConn community. The tutorial will include how to submit news and announcements to the College and University Digests, how to post events to the UConn Events Calendars, and an introduction to using the University's photo database, the UConn Media Share to find images.

Improving Your Phone Photography/Videography Skills - Friday, April 1, 2022

Jason Sheldon will be hosting a tutorial on how to capture better pictures and video recordings with your phone. He will discuss composition and framing, how to adjust phone settings (Android and iPhone), and other useful tips and elements to consider when taking photos and recording videos.
