Interim Head, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics
Charles Towe is the Delfavero Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics and serves as Interim Head of the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Connecticut’s College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources. He is an internationally recognized environmental economist whose research explores environmental and resource economics, land use, and the economic valuation of environmental amenities. His work addresses critical issues including water quality, coastal resource management, and the intersection of environmental policy and economic outcomes.
Towe joined UConn in 2014 and has held faculty appointments from assistant to full professor. In his current leadership role, he guides the department’s research, teaching, and extension efforts while continuing his own research program. A dedicated educator, he teaches courses in environmental and resource policy, applied econometrics, and computational methods.
He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, his M.A. in Economics from Tufts University, and his B.A. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, with a minor in Mathematics.
