UConn Extension Accommodations for People with Disabilities

The University of Connecticut complies with all applicable federal and state laws regarding non-discrimination, equal opportunity and affirmative action, including the provision of reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities.  Extension program participants with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations to address limitations resulting from a disability.  For more information, please contact the UConn Extension Civil Rights Liaison at extensioncivilrights@uconn.edu.

Requesting Accommodations

Participants who would like to request accommodations for a program should submit their request to their program director.  Requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis via an interactive process to discern accommodations.

Participants are welcome to provide documentation from their current medical provider to support their request, if they wish.  Documentation should be from a qualified professional and include detail as to the substantial limitation that would impact a person’s ability to participate fully in the program.

The program will make every effort to determine and implement accommodations in a timely manner to ensure complete access to all participants, thus accommodation requests should be made as soon as possible.  Please be advised that accommodations not requested prior to the program start date may result in a delay in their implementation.

Grievance Procedure

Should a participant feel that their accommodations were not appropriately implemented or they were denied unreasonably, they are welcome to contact UConn’s Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) by submitting a Reporting Form.

More information on the policies and procedures OIE administers can be found here.

Complainants can also be filed directly to the Department of Agriculture via the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form.  More information on their procedure and how to file a complaint can be found here.
