Jason Vokoun, PhD

Professor and Department Head

Natural Resources and the Environment

Dr. Jason Vokoun is Professor and Department Head in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment. He is also the Director of the cross-college interdisciplinary Environmental Sciences major at UConn. Dr. Vokoun has lead the department since 2017, and he has been faculty at UConn since 2004.

Dr. Vokoun has remained an active instructor at UConn, and he teaches mostly upper division courses for natural resources and environmental sciences majors. He instructs two different writing-intensive courses, including the capstone course.

Dr. Vokoun’s research background is in fisheries conservation. He works most often within streams, but he has conducted research in lakes and saltmarsh habitats across southern New England. He still finds time to actively participate in some research, and he publishes peer-reviewed journal articles often with (self-admitted) bad titles, but he aspires to do better.

Under his leadership, the department has grown in every aspect, but most important to Dr. Vokoun, the professional family culture and high percentage of all-around great people involved has remained constant.
